Is your body trying to tell you something?

Your body has a way of speaking up when something’s off.

Your body has a way of speaking up when something’s off. Maybe it’s a nagging hip, a constant stiff back, or shoulder tension that won’t let go.

Months, maybe years have gone by, you’ve tried everything—massages, stretches, rest—but the pain persists. It’s frustrating, right? I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to feel like your body is holding you back, no matter what you try.

But what if the pain isn’t just physical?
What if your body is trying to tell you something deeper—something emotional?

As a Certified Mindbody/TMS Coach, I help you uncover the connection between your mind, emotions, and pain. Together, we’ll explore what your body is saying, so you can finally break free from the cycle and get back to the life you love—active, adventurous, and pain-free.

Hi! I’m Trisha

Here’s a bit about my own story with MindBody/TMS symptoms

A few years back, my body started sending me some very intense messages in the form of back pain—so bad that I could barely walk upright.

I’ll never forget being doubled over on a footpath, gripping a gate post, praying no-one would see me. After going down all the usual routes I opted for an MRI. I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, and degenerative disc disease. At the time I thought ‘that’s it, I’m broken’ and began to list all the things I’d never do again.

Faced with a restricted future...

A friend recommended the book ‘Healing Back Pain’ by Dr. John Sarno - a professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and it felt like a light bulb moment.

Through his work and those who’ve continued to research into the mind body connection, I learned that pain isn’t always the result of a structural pathology—it’s deeply connected to emotions, stress, and how we process life.

What made me try this approach? I had nothing to loose and everything to gain. I’d also noticed inconsistencies; the day of my MRI I woke with a spring in my step and zero pain! A family day out, also zero pain, which at the time I put down to the shoes I was wearing! Plus, I’d had a few really tough years.

It wasn’t overnight, but slowly and surely by adopting a different mindset and really trusting the process my pain began to shift.

This journey led me to set up ‘Living a MindBody Life’.

I am a Certified TMS/Mindbody Syndrome Practitioner and SIRPA informed Coach. Today, I help others understand their pain, listen to and trust their bodies, and learn to heal, just like I did.

Changing how we think about pain and trusting that our bodies are not broken are key parts of this journey.
It’s not easy, but it’s absolutely possible—and it’s worth it.

TMS/MindBody Symptoms? Let me explain…

TMS/MindBody Symptoms? Let me explain…

TMS/MindBody symptoms - Let me explain...

TMS (Tension Myositis/Myoneural Syndrome) is the term originally used by Dr Sarno to describe the condition. It is still popular but other commonly used names are: MindBody Syndrome, Psychophysiological Disorder, Stress Illness or Neuroplastic Pain.

I prefer to use TMS and MindBody symptoms but essentially they all describe the same thing: a condition where emotional or psychological stress manifests as chronic pain, often, but not exclusively, in the muscles, tendons, and nerves. It's based on the mind-body connection and our autonomic nervous system.

This concept was first introduced by Dr. John Sarno - A professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University Medical Center. His groundbreaking work with patients, showed that many chronic pain symptoms are not caused by actual tissue damage, but by stress, unresolved psychological tension, certain behaviours and beliefs around the pain.

Physicians across the globe have continued to research, perform studies and develop Sarno’s principles to further understand and cure chronic pain with astonishing developments.

Put simply...

Just like emotions can cause blushing, sweating, or a racing heart, they can also create
physical pain.

The body naturally reacts to our feelings; ever had a tension headache after a gruelling day? Do nerves trigger a symptom in your stomach? That’s your autonomic nervous system, it’s the super highway between your brain and your body; communicating how you're feeling into physical sensations. Whether those feelings are positive or negative it systematically shifts between these needs like a dial.

If your life-stress load becomes too great the dial can get stuck and a niggling symptoms to ‘slow down’ appears. When it’s ignored, the brain will create a much more obvious pain, often in the form of back pain, migraines, or other persistent symptoms. Often, the pain then becomes more of a concern and the dial is now stuck due to the pain itself.

Please be assured, these symptoms aren’t “in your head”, they’re very real. The brain creates pain as a way of getting you to slow down and pay attention, forcing you to stop juggling everything. The MindBody approach looks at the whole person, holistically to process moves from pain to wellness and gets you back doing what you love.

YOUR BODY IS AN EMOTIONAL BAROMETER

It reflects the stress, tension and any bottled up feelings you carry, through physical symptoms

    • All pain is generated by the brain, but not all pain is caused by injury.

    • Emotional stress and tension can lead to chronic pain that lingers long after the initial trigger.

    • MindBody/TMS pain can show up in different forms, like back pain, neck pain, IBS, or even migraines, and often hits people who are active, driven, or pushing themselves too hard. Sound familiar?

    • Stress keeps the nervous system on high alert, causing the pain signals to stick around.

    • The more we focus on the pain, the more the brain reinforces the sensation, making it seem even worse.

    • Fear of the pain itself can become part of the cycle—when you’re worried that every movement might make it worse, your brain stays in protection mode, keeping the pain alive.

    • Through MindBody techniques, we can retrain the brain to calm those pain signals.

    • People who adopt this approach experience real, lasting relief as they shift their mindset and understand their body’s signals.

    • Studies show that people have overcome chronic pain by addressing the emotional triggers, reducing stress, and learning to trust their body is not broken.

Find out what your body is trying to tell you.

Does your back pain flare up when you’re stressed or more tired after a long week? Is it worse at night, even though you didn’t do anything physically strenuous?

That sounds a lot like a MindBody symptom - your body expressing emotional stress as physical pain.

By understanding this mind-body connection, you can finally break free from the cycle of chronic pain that no amount of stretching or rest seems to fix. As a MindBody/TMS coach, I’ll guide you through uncovering the emotional triggers, behaviour and beliefs behind your pain, helping you get back to the activities you love and simply feeling good again.
